Platform Shoes

This kind of women's footwear are called platform shoes or platform pumps in english, scarpe con le zeppe in Italy or plateau in the French way. Platforms are obviously those double soles that allow reaching a higher heel without increasing the shoe arch. Plateaux or plateaus are actually a little thinner.

After the 70's platform shoes were regarded as typical slutty footwear, suitable only for hookers or transgendered people, until some of the most famous designers proposed them as high fashion luxury shoes. I think the first one was Jean-Paul Gaultier, then followed by Christian Dior, Gucci, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Blumarine and even the conservative Louis Vuitton. This year they proposed thinner platforms called plateaus or plateaux.

Some of these models have a ribbon or flower application on the toe box that makes the design softer and more romantic. These shoes make me think of 50's pin-ups and burlesque divas like Betty Page and Dita Von Teese. In fact they would be perfect with an hourglass corseted waist. Once again fashion designers recycle fetish sex fashion for high-end collections. Other examples are Vivienne Westwood and Terry De Havilland.

Since the basic STYLETTOS Italy idea is that every woman should wear stiletto heels, the same is for skyscraper high platforms and wedges. This could sound a crazy idea, but that's the fun of it. That's why they are seen around more often, high platforms or lower plateaus or plateaux with high heels and ankle straps.
